Hammer Remit is the set of checks that find the places a claim's money fell off, and the assistant you ask about them. They read the claims, the insurer's replies, the bank deposits and the ledger, and say where each claim's money stopped, what it should have paid against the contract, what should have been caught before the claim went out, and what is worth appealing. They are not one big search: they are many narrow tools, each answering one question from the records it is handed, and each one refuses when the records cannot settle the question.
The book it sweeps is a hospital that does not exist. The patients, the claims, the payments and the provider are fabricated and describe nobody; the payer mix they were shaped by, the code mix of the market they bill into, the fee schedule and the rates each insurer publishes it pays are real, published, and named inside the book.
What it refuses, and why
The refusals are the checks' own, in the world, not a rule written into the assistant's prompt. It will not tell you why a payer decided what it decided, because the remittance carries a reason code and not a reason. It will not read an absent payment as a zero, because a payment that has not arrived and a payment of nothing are different facts and the records distinguish them. It will not assert a contractual entitlement without the contract, will not say a chart supports a service it has not been handed, will not guess an appeal's odds, will not put a figure on a recovery, and will not open a book it was not given the seed for. Each refusal names what would settle the question instead, so a refusal tells you what to go and get rather than closing the subject.
The findings it will not sell you
Every finding the sweep returns carries the class of thing that settles it. Some are settled by the records themselves: a remittance says one figure and the deposit says another, and the arithmetic is the whole argument. Some need a chart nobody here has. And some are judgement, which on this book is a control group: they were planted so that the right answer is silence, and an assistant that hands one to you as money to recover has just told you what it does with the cases where nothing is knowable. The narration says which class each finding it names belongs to, every time, so you can see it decline the ones designed to tempt it.
